PROPERTY INSPECTION

Do You Need to Get a Property Inspection on a Home You Already Live In?

Home inspection is typically associated with the buying and selling of real estate, but this isn't the only time it's useful. In fact, it can be extremely useful to those who have lived in their houses for a long time, especially if those houses are older.
In these cases, many things may be quietly going wrong behind the walls or underneath visible plumbing fixtures like sinks. However, if no property inspection is done, the problems only become obvious when they begin to cause visible trouble. Examples include electrical outlets or wall-mounted lamps that no longer get power, wet spots appearing on the floor, leaks arising in the ceilings, and other such things.

All of these issues can be found early by hiring specific professionals to come and look, but if you go about it that way, you have to pay a different person for each type of system being examined. For example, if you wonder whether your electricity, plumbing, and roof are okay, you would need to hire an electrician, plumber, and roofer. Paying each of these professionals separately would be quite expensive.

Hiring a home inspection company saves you from having to hire and pay for multiple separate tradespeople. You pay one inspection fee, and the company checks everything out. It's much more efficient in terms of time, as well.

When you have a home inspector come, be sure to get a foundation inspection, too. Older houses often shift on their foundations, and a timely foundation inspection can give you the time you need to explore the options for any repairs that are needed. As with other issues, the earlier you spot a foundation problem, the easier and less costly it will be to have it fixed.
